If you're a woman with tattoos, you've probably heard your fair share of scrutiny over the years. Funnily enough, society's continual disapproval of tattooed women just makes tattooed women want one thing: More tattoos. 

To the disappointment of my mother, I've got a bunch of tattoos. The generations before saw tattoos as a feared symbol of gang affiliation, dark tendencies, or just unsightly body graffiti. And sure there were a few janky prison-style pieces that have a bad rep, but for the most part, human culture has come full circle, with tattooed folks taking over the public mindset. Relax everybody, it's just art. 

But since women are weirdly under some societal microscope at all times, tattooed women experience colorful reception of their tattoos on the regular. Let your hair down, loosen your collar, and open your mind a little–we live in a world where a lady can go get cat skulls, ghosts, flowers, dragons, angel numbers, and all kinds of ink permanently etched into their skin.

If you don't like it, just look somewhere else, buddy.

    msstark the classic: "you're gonna regret them when you're older!" Cutest was when a kid asked me if I colored one of mine in myself. Her mom has a similar design but hers is black and white while mine is very colorful lol

    Twiggadee Surprisingly, I've only had one negative interaction because of my tattoos. I was walking into a restaurant and an elderly gentleman and his wife were walking in ahead of me. He was going to hold the door for me initially, but then saw my tattoos and promptly let the door close in my face. Other than that, I get nothing but compliments.

    Standard-Ask-466 The most annoying thing for me is men fetishizing them and saying "I bet you're a real bad girl" or "you'd get me in trouble!” Like sir I am just in the grocery aisle buying produce with my money from my 9-5 corporate job.

    celestialism Sometimes people catcall me over mine, which is annoying and occasionally scary. And I've had some old people say typical stuff about how I "might regret [the tattoos] someday" or they won't look good when I'm old or whatever.

    thefancysurprise I'm a pretty heavily tattooed woman and get a lot of comments during the summer. My favorite line to dismiss men that I don't want to talk to is "thanks, they're fake."
